“The Way You Are” (playing on the initials of the artist’s name in English - UR) deals with the experience of migration. It explores feelings of alienation, lack of belonging, loneliness, and the persistent desire to escape, as well as the hopes and dreams for a better future that come with it. Embedded in this is Rubin's experience of young fatherhood, and his songs also touch on how leaving one’s country of origin shapes parenthood, relationships, and family life.
This album describes a journey, where each song is a stop along the way, and the order of the songs carries meaning. The opening song, “Autumn Colors,” describes the seasonal changes as a subtle struggle, reflecting human struggles associated with transitions. The second song, the titular song of the album, touches on the constant search for love and acceptance - a journey often doomed from the start to failure. Ultimately, Rubin writes, you become who you are without choice:
You have become the way you are
From running to a fight
Or limping back to shelter
From wanting her so much
But never really get her …
Although you did your best to run
You have become the way you are...
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Uri Rubin, 47, resides in Connecticut with his wife, the artist Era Leen, their six-year-old son Leo, and their four-year-old dog, Page. The experience of wandering is not foreign to him. Born in Philadelphia in 1976 to Israeli parents, Uri spent his early childhood in Nigeria, grew up in Israel, and lived in Ecuador for a year as a teenager. These experiences had a great impact on his life, which is reflected in the songs on the album, along with his experience of migrating as an adult.
During his childhood in Israel, Uri lived mainly in Kfar Saba, where he met his close friend Koski. In 2016, Uri moved to the United States, initially settling in New York City, then later relocated to Connecticut during the pandemic.

LYRICS
The Way You Are
The Way You Are
Autumn Colors
It's hard enough for summer
to acknowledge autumn colors
It's really hard for me to move along
I think it's time for me to move along.
It's time for me to get up and move on
On each forgotten road
There's a story to be told
That you really cannot leave your life behind
It's hard enough for summer
To acknowledge autumn colors
It's really hard for me to move along
As color leaves the leaves and fades
I must wander from the shade
Again, it is time, to move along
I think it's time for me to move along
I think it's time for me to move along
It's time for me to get up and move on
Like a king who lost his fight
I must leave alone tonight
It's really hard to be alone
It's really hard to lose your home
Ahhhhhhh…
The Way You Are
You have become the way you are
From running to a fight
Or limping back to shelter
From wanting her so much
But never really get her
You have become the way you are
By being in the crossfire
Or pulling on the trigger
By starting just on time
And ending looking eager
Will you let me see
The scars that don your heart
And will I let you see
The place that was my heart
Just before it burned
Will you be able to withstand
Could you look into my eyes
And see all my fears
I could never let them go
Could never stop their burn
And how it feels to yearn
For her love
That never truly came
Although you did your best to run
You have become the way you are
If I could have another run,
another run
I promise…
This time I will do my best
Not to run
To get up when knocked down
Even Though you were on a roll
You couldn't just let things go
If it wasn't for your bad luck
You would not have luck at all
You couldn't just let things go
Shine On Me
Shine on me your light
So in my darkness
I can find my way home
I don't want to spend my life
Searching for
The other broken half
I've had enough
After all these years
And I'm still fleeing
From all my pains and fears
Although they've mostly healed.
Now to find the pieces
Left while I was running
Glue them all together
To make another song
Sometimes it blows the
Clouds away for me
To shine
To shine on you
Sometimes I feel I’m dying
Do you know how it feels to be
Drowning in your thoughts
Without control
Won't you shine your light on me
Shine from up above
And never let me go
After all these years
And my behavior
Like someone who was burned by hot
And now afraid of cold
I wish that i'll succeed
In my endeavor
To leave behind my bullshit
Be content with who I am
To break this cage
of expectations
And to shine
To shine
To shine within
Shine on me your light
And never let me go
Be my beacon in the night
Let me bask beneath your light
Hold me close and hold me tight
And I will glow
You Are OK
High on a mountain
Where Elijah said goodbye
Took his fire Chariot and
Flew into the sky.
It was so hard for me
To keep my sight
Had this feeling that
I cannot find my light
I was a lonely boy on acid
Mumbling to myself
You are ok
I’ll be ok
You are ok
Will you drop me off
Just after the light
As I slowed down my car
And pulled of to the side
When she thanked me for the ride and left
To fly into the night
I felt alright
it felt alright
All the times
That I was waiting for a sign
Lost in a city that's always pretty
I feel fine
I get dizzy by the crowd
You held my hand
And then you said
You are ok
We are ok
It’ll be ok
I didn't get what she said
I let it go
Kept spinning, by my thoughts
I was fooled
I left it far behind
Until the moment
That we try
To find a meaning
To find something to strive for
To find something to wait for
To find someone to hold
A shelter from the cold
To find someone to just
just get old with
I'm getting old
It's getting old.
He can dance
He can move
He’s getting old
But he still got his groove
He can dance
He can move
He’s getting old
But he still got his groove
He can dance
He can move
He’s getting old
But he still got his groove
He can dance
He can move
He’s getting old
But he still got his
Still got his groove
He can move
He’s getting old
But he still got his groove
He can dance
He can move
He’s getting old
But he still got his groove
I can dance
I can move
I’m getting old but I still got my groove
I’m getting old but I still got my groove
It's a new song every moment
It's a new song
It's a new song every moment
You are ok when you are singing
Your new song every moment
When you sing your song
When you sing your song every moment
When you sing your song every second
Of your life
When you sing your song
It become your life
When you sing your song
It become your life
It become your life
When you sing your song
It becomes your life
Becomes your life
From U.R.I
From You are I
To I am you
Is just another
Point of view
From You are I
To I am you
Is just another
Point of view
From You are I
To I am you
Is just another
Point of view
Another Dance
I wish I could draw a line
Between what's yours
And what is mine
What is mine?
I wish that I could put a dot
Between ideas and random thoughts
That steers me straight into confusion
No guts no glory
I wish I had a story
A story to convey
How my fears are slowly drifting
How my gears are slowly shifting
I feel the coming of the break
I'm gonna take off
Take off…
And maybe, maybe
I’ll do a dance
You know maybe
Sometime you have to dance
so come on and dance with me
We’ll do a little dancing
In the rain
We’ll laugh again together
So tall and beautiful
We’ll do our little dance in the rain
we‘ll laugh again
together we are so beautiful
Another chance for romance
we’ll get our chance
for romance
We’ll do a little dance in the rain
we’ll have a chance
together we are so beautiful
You know we should
We really should be
Dancing in the rain
We’ll laugh again together
We’ll get our chance for romance
We’ll have a chance
We are so beautiful
Another chance for romance
Another chance for romance
Sinking
????
Vicious Cycle
He doesn’t seem to get a grip
He had a hold
But then he slipped
Back to the start
Searching for his part
To let go of his past
As he tried to walk the path
He couldn't last
As I wander with the sands
All my bridges burn
As I wander with the sands
All my bridges burn
I never seem to get inline
Always running out of time
To find a title
And move on
To write another song
It's been too long
We live and die
And get reborn
To play our part
To sing our song
We live and die
And get reborn
To play our part
To sing our song
There's nothing new
Under the sun
We all shall die
Before we’re done
A simple fact
We should embrace
There are no winners
In this race
The game is set
The fight is fixed
They brought their guns
We’re holding sticks
And we’re all keep getting sick
Deep into our soul
Something must have crawled
As time erodes us into sand
This vicious cycle never ends
As time erodes us into sand
This vicious cycle never ends
We span so much
Now we’re screwed
From all this would have
Could have should
We’ve wandered in
This muddy land
And we all know
How this ends
We span so much
Now we’re screwed
From all this would have
Could have should
Drifting
It’s been a while and we've retreated
Each on separate raft has drifted
Before that constant pain
Will sink us once again
It’s been a while and we’re retreating
On our separate rafts we’re drifting
Before that awful day
Those waves of pain again
It’s been a while and we’ve retreated
Only basic needs were heeded
As we crawled inside ourselves
Our lives went on the shelf
And by the time we finished drifting
We forget what we were missing
I’m still waiting for the day
That we will meet again
And even though
We seem alone
I trust the seas
To get us home
Been a while and we’ve retreated
Each on separate raft has drifted
Before that constant pain
Will sink us once again
And by the time we finished drifting
We forgot we were always sinking
Even on the shore
After The Silence
It’s been a while and we've retreated
